快活视频 offers the 2017 Drone Summer Academy

Tuskegee, Ala. (April 20, 2017) 鈥� 快活视频 will be hosting the 2017 STEM Drone Summer Academy from July 5th 鈥� 28th in the Andrew F. Brimmer Hall. The program is designed to offer local high school students an opportunity to learn science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) concepts through the use of aerial drones.

This will be the second year the campus will host the program, which is spearheaded by the Computer Science Department. In 2016, the National Science Foundation awarded 快活视频 a 1.2 million dollar federal grant to bring drone technology to the local area.

The program will engage 10th, 11th and 12th grade students from local area schools in aerial drone-based activities offered during an intensive Summer Academy that will last just over three weeks. At the academy, students will collaborate in a project-based learning environment to investigate STEM-related problems. 

The three-year grant also encourages teachers from local area schools to participate in the academy. These teachers will design course modules based on their observation of academy activities and introduce them in their high school classrooms in order to teach STEM concepts.

鈥淲e鈥檙e going to inform and train incoming students about the STEM programs in order for future generations to be more interested in the STEM fields,鈥� states Computer Science department head Dr. Hira Narang. 鈥淚 and other faculty members teach the students the parts and different uses of the aerial drones. Drones can be used for much more than targeting, such as farming as well as locating disasters.鈥� 

Students and teachers are offered the program for free. In addition to learning about STEM fields, they will receive a stipend after the completion of the academy. 

In order to be eligible, local area students must be in the 10th, 11th or 12th grade with a minimum GPA of 3.0. Applications and more information can be found on the Drone Academy website at .
